Believe it or not, we’re already into April of 2016, and that means it’s time for some serious spring cleaning inside and outside of our homes. Getting our lawns ready for all the fun in the sun we’ve got planned for this year, as well as getting our inventory of fall/winter items out of the house and welcoming back the warm weather goodness of our spring/summer gear.
Unfortunately, as we’re bringing in our boxes of summer clothes and games, we’re also bringing in some uninvited pests that may have taken up residence in the storage unit, garage or attic over the cooler months. We here at Brandon Pest Control have put together a few tips on how you can help defend your home against pests that are taking advantage of the changing of the seasons.
Let’s start in the kitchen. Ants and cockroaches love being able to have a bounty of food & water available to supply their ranks as they try to infest your home. Make sure to get rid of any stale or outdated food that might be hanging around in the back of your pantry or cabinets. Make sure you keep lids tight on foods and keep your countertops & floors clean as well. Ants and cockroaches love having a nice trail to follow to the kitchen and your food stores.
In the bathroom, make sure when you’re unloading all those extra beach towels into the closet, that you do a quick check for any areas of excess moisture build-up around toilets, faucets, bathtubs and sinks. Annoying pests like silverfish and cockroaches favor areas that are moist and the bathroom fits the bill to provide just such an environment.
Now that we’ve got the garage cleaned out and the house in order, it’s time to take a peek at what kinds of pests have tried to set-up shop around the exterior perimeter of our homes. Take a look at your screens and windows, taking note of any repairs that may need to be done to keep pests from entering your home. Pay special attention to eaves, fascia, and the areas around your downspouts and gutters. Any deteriorating or rotting wood can invite termites to come to your home for an all-you-can-eat buffet of your largest and most valuable asset.
Of course the most important thing to keep in mind when addressing any pest problems in and around your home is to have a certified pest professional with experience you can trust to help you spend your time on enjoying your home and not defending it from invasive pests. Brandon Pest Control is always ready to give your home the protection it needs against ants, cockroaches, termites, mosquitoes and any other pest that is threatening your home, your lawn or your family. Pests? Bugs? Lawn troubles? If you’ve got ‘em, Brandon gets ‘em!
